This course at Central Saint Martins will help you explore the workings of the fashion industry and help you understand how to promote fashion creatively.
On your 3-week Fashion Communication course you will seek to answer the question, how does the fashion communications industry work? Fashion design is just one part of a huge industry that uses concepts of promotion and communication to connect people to fashion.
This course will explore the workings of the fashion industry helping students to understand how to promote fashion. Your fashion journey will track the process of research, design and realisation for fashion communication and then focus on understanding creative ways to promote fashion. You will look at how different media is used to communicate fashion and specifically how journalism, photography and styling can help sell fashion ideas. You will undertake a series of projects as individual, in a pair and as a group producing a fashion show and presenting an exhibition of your work.

You should be proficient in written and spoken English and be able to participate in group discussions and make presentations. As a guideline we would expect you to have an English language level equivalent to IELTS score of 6.0. A certificate is not required.

This course is open to all levels and is suitable for students over 18 wanting undergraduate-level study.

This course will enhance your existing communication skills by undertaking a series of projects as individual, in a pair and as a group producing a fashion show and presenting an exhibition of your work.
Although an intensive course, it is a unique and fun London fashion experience with similar minded fashion enthusiasts, offering a similar experience to that of an undergraduate Central Saint Martins student.
Melanie Ashley is a tutor in Fashion Communication. She directs communications, press and events at Central Saint Martins, including producing both MA and BA Fashion Shows, overseeing the most exciting fashion talents that emerge in London. Fashion in London is her specialist subject having worked across PR, fashion events, styling and digital innovation in London for 10 years for clients including British Vogue, Dover Street Market, Love Magazine and designers Richard Malone, Matty Bovan and Fredrik Tjærandsen. After graduating from CSM in BA Fashion Communication she worked with famed fashion PR Mandi Lennard, then alongside Camilla Lowther at pioneering photography agency CLM and has continued to focus on emerging talent in London throughout this time. Alongside her teaching and work at CSM she continues to be part of music artist M.I.A's creative team, traveling internationally which continuously informs her world view and perspective on fashion reinforcing an important sentiment - Fashion doesn't exist in a vacuum.
