School of Design and Technology facilities

The School of Design and Technology (SDT) delivers a range of world-leading undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the areas of fashion design and innovation. These facilities are available to SDT students.

Footwear facilities

LCF joined forces with the world-renowned Cordwainers College in 2000. Pattern cutting, clicking and closing and making skills are taught in dedicated workshops, where students have access to a wide range of industrial footwear machinery and specialised hand tools, to achieve a range of finishes and high-quality end products.

Artefact Studio

The woodworking machinery can be found on the 9th floor at East Bank, containing equipment such as a Band Saw and Disc Sander. In this studio you'll also find technical staff that are available to help with enquiries regarding this equipment and machinery.

Jewellery Workshop

The Jewellery and 3D Studios are located on the 8th floor at East Bank. This is where students can find supervised studio workshops, technical staff that are available to help with enquiries, and a variety of machinery including Bubble Etcher, Sandblasting Machine, Pillar Drill, Soldering Torches and much more.

Embroidery Studios

The Embroidery Studios on the 9th floor at East Bank is where embroidery CAD/CAM PCs and machines are located, embroidery craft machines are located, supervised studio and taught classes are delivered, and technical staff are available to support with student queries.

Knit Studios

The Knit Studio on the 9th floor at East Bank is where students can access specialist knit machines, yarn winders, iron/steam bed, dubied machines, and a knit pattern cutting area. Technical staff are available to support with student queries.

The Digital workroom on the 9th floor at East Bank is where students can access specialist Software (M1plus), selected yarns for Stoll machines, technical information and swatches.

Print Studios

The Print Craft and Dye facilities on the 9th floor at East Bank offers dye facilities, equipment to steam and finish fabrics including a heat press using flatbed or samples presses, screen printed fabric samples with names of suppliers.

The Digital Textile Print facilities and resources also include specialist computer software (Mac Suite), specialist machinery Mimaki Printers, fabric finishing facilities, digital print fabric samples, AVA software, Wacom tablets, guides and handouts to using specialist software.

Garment Store

The Garment Store is situated on the 12th floor. Design and Technology MA and BA students at LCF can access a variety of materials, trimmings and fixings, and all LCF students can access excess materials daily. The Garment Store advises on different types of fabrics, interlinings, and technical support, and acts as an initial point of contact for industries that offer fabrics and trimmings donations.
