Contracting with UAL

The University of the Arts London is Europe’s largest specialist arts and design university, and one of the most renowned international institutions in arts, design, fashion and communication. UAL has six constituent Colleges: Camberwell College of Arts, Central Saint Martins, Chelsea College of Arts, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion and Wimbledon College of Arts.

The University’s central Procurement Team is responsible for all purchases at and above £150,000 (exc. VAT) of approximately £100m of annual non-pay spend. We promote efficient and effective procurement, working with stakeholders to support responsible procurement and ensure value for money is maximised, advising on risk management as well as compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

University purchasing

With effect from 1 August 2016 UAL is currently not a 'contracting authority' within the scope of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015 (“PCR”); this status is reviewed each financial year.

For the financial year 2023/2024, the Finance Committee of the Court of Governors has declared that the University is outside the scope of the public procurement regime as it is less than 50 per cent publicly funded. The calculation is carried out annually to ensure that it remains possible to make the declaration. It is UAL’s intention that the University’s procurement procedures will continue to follow the good practice set out in the regulations and in the University’s Financial Procedures. The University is committed to ensuring value for money in all of its contracting.

UAL has an association with the Southern Universities Purchasing Consortium (SUPC) and the London Universities Purchasing Consortium (LUPC); using a number of their regionally and nationally-negotiated framework agreements to buy goods and services. We also use framework agreements negotiated by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC). Please contact the organisations direct if you wish to register or obtain their terms and conditions.

UAL does not maintain a preferred supplier list however all Estates contractors must be registered with Constructionline.
