Location: EB_M01

The Worshipful Company of Cordwainers is pleased to invite you to attend a lecture from Freeman Deborah Carré about the history of shoemakers (cordwainers) in the City of London on Thursday 14th May.

The lecture will explore the life of shoemakers in the City across eight centuries, from 1200 to the present day, the shoes they made and the feet they shod.

The session will conclude with a Q&A segment, allowing audience members to ask questions.

Speakers

Carréducker - Deborah Carré, alongside business partner James Ducker, founded Carréducker in 2004. Carréducker are award-winning independent handsewn shoemakers with a bespoke workshop and training school in the iconic Oxo Tower Wharf on London’s South Bank. Both Deborah and James are Freemen (members) of the Worshipful Company of Cordwainers. https://www.carreducker.com/

The Worshipful Company of Cordwainers – is a City of London livery company, which was granted the right to regulate the footwear trade in the City of London in 1272. During the medieval period, craftsmen formed guilds (livery companies) to regulate their trades, to protect the quality of their wares, to train apprentices and support their members through good times and bad. Today, members of the Cordwainers Company come from all walks of life but share a common purpose: to support footwear education and the British shoe industry, and to continue the remarkable legacy of charitable giving which unites the City livery companies. https://cordwainers.org/
