UAL Short Courses Cookie Statement

Moodle Cookies Policy

Last updated: Wednesday 5 February 2025

This Cookie Policy explains how the University of the Arts London (UAL) Moodle site uses cookies and similar technologies to recognise you when you visit UAL Short Courses. It explains what these technologies are and why we use them, as well as your rights to control our use of them.

In some cases we may use cookies to collect personal information, or that becomes personal information if we combine it with other information.

What are cookies

Cookies are small data files that are placed on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used by website owners in order to make their websites work, or to work more efficiently, as well as to provide reporting information.

Cookies set by the website owner (in this case, the University of the Arts London) are called "first-party cookies." Cookies set by parties other than the website owner are called "third-party cookies." Third-party cookies enable third-party features or functionality to be provided on or through the website (for example, interactive content, and analytics).

Why do we use cookies

We use first- and third-party cookies for several reasons. Some cookies are required for technical reasons in order for our Moodle to operate, and we refer to these as "essential". Other cookies also enable us to track and monitor the use of Moodle to help us improve technical stability of the platform and also to contribute to improving the overall user experience.

How can I control cookies

Most web browsers allow some control of most cookies through the browser settings. To find out more about cookies, including how to see what cookies have been set, you can visit About Cookies or All About Cookies.

Please be aware, Moodle is an open source platform that utilises multiple third-party plug-ins to facilitate the learning and teaching experience. If you choose to switch off certain cookies it may impact on the functionality of the Moodle.

To opt out of being tracked by Google Analytics across all websites you can use the Google Analytics Opt-out tool.

The specific types of first-party and third-party cookies served through our websites and the purposes they perform are described in the table below (please note that the specific cookies served may vary depending on the specific page you visit or Moodle plugin you are using):
