Join Eva Dieteren for a guided listening of Millie Jackson’s Caught Up & Still Caught Up: bold, intimate concept albums.

What does it mean to really listen to an album? In an age of shuffled playlists and the TikTok-ification of music, listening to an album from start to finish is a radical act. This session is an invitation to do exactly that: a guided, collective listening experience designed to slow down and become immersed in an album’s sonic world.

In this session, we will delve into the sonic world of Millie Jackson’s Caught Up (1974) and Still Caught Up (1975): an intimate journey through infidelity that refuses to moralise, combining confessional storytelling with bawdy and explicit humour. Conceptually ambitious and narratively rich, these albums redefine what a concept album can be: not grand abstract narratives, but the intimate, everyday lives of Black women in 1970s America. Here, the personal is political.

We'll listen to the albums together, guided by prompts to help you engage with the music as it unfolds, followed by time for discussion and reflection.

Part of the magic of collective listening is coming in with fresh ears. First time hearing the albums? Even better!

This event is free and open to all, please sign up in advance as spaces are limited!

The event will take place in the Atelier Spaceon the ground floor.
