University of the Arts London (UAL) has once again been recognised for its commitment to supporting research-only staff, retaining the prestigious HR Excellence in Research (HREiR) Award. This internationally respected award, administered by Vitae, acknowledges the university’s ongoing dedication to enhancing the personal, professional, and career development of its research community. The peer review commended UAL for strengthening its commitment to HR Excellence and its positive trajectory.

UAL successfully retained the award following a rigorous five-year independent review, reaffirming its commitment to the principles of the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers. This national framework sets out best practices for improving research culture, employment conditions, and career progression opportunities within UK institutions.

The Concordat brings together four key stakeholders - institutions, managers, researchers, and funders - to create a supportive and sustainable research environment. UAL’s latest review not only reflects its progress but also sets out specific actions to further enhance the experience and career prospects of staff on research-only contracts.

By retaining the HREiR Award, UAL continues to demonstrate its leadership in fostering an inclusive and thriving research culture.

Retaining this award is a testament to a lot of hard work and consideration. At UAL, we remain committed to strengthening our research environment, improving employment conditions, and enhancing professional development opportunities for researchers working on our funded research projects.
